Queens Orchestra – Orientation information for new members Hello everyone!
Welcome to the new members and thanks for sending me your very complete information. As most of you know, our fastest way to communicate with you is by email, since this is faster than calling. In a prior semester we had an unprecedented number of rehearsal and concert cancellations due to the ice and snow. Ok—to keep this short, here’s a list of things you might need to know:
Our Website It is fairly basic, but functional. You may send me suggestions for content and such. You can print flyers, look at past programs, see the member lists, etc. Please remember to register each semester (see main page).
Concerts We usually have a winter concert (usually around the first or second Monday in Dec.). Al will announce this. The spring concert is usually around the last of April or first of May. Extra concerts will be announced by Al.
Rehearsals Rehearsals are every Mon. at 7:30, beginning the week after Labor Day, and the second Monday after New Years Day. There is also a dress rehearsal the Sunday before the concert (day before)—same time. I’ll try to firm these up and put them on the web. During inclement weather, we ask that you stay home if you don’t feel comfortable driving in the ice and snow. During bad weather, try and check your email and messages and/or this website before coming in. In general, if Queens classes are closed for bad weather, we are too!
Rehearsal start dates:: Spring: 2nd Monday after New Years day, Fall : 1st Monday after Labor Day.
Dues Please remember your annual dues
Contacting Al If you have
specific questions, it’s best to direct them to Al. Sometimes I get caught
forwarding messages around and forget. His email address is on
the main page, or: During holiday or vacation times, we may not check emails frequently. Feel free to contact a couple of us in your emails or phone calls.
Finally We will need your help to make sure your information is current (see home page). We post the list in a special hidden area for various orchestra members to help with calling and such (important when we don't have power for computers during ice and snow storms). If your stand partners don’t have email, buddy-up and try to notify them. If you haven’t kept your information updated, please touch base with Al or a member if you have questions about a possible rehearsal or concert cancellation.
Welcome all! Jeff
