Dues Reminder

Queens Community Orchestra is a member-supported organization.  The University provides us with rehearsal/performance space, but it does not buy music for us or compensate Mr. Sica for his time and dedication.  Therefore, we have always asked members to contribute monetarily by paying annual membership dues.

Our annual budget need is about $2,000.  When the member dues were established at $40 over 20 years ago, the orchestra had about 50 members.  Now our membership is smaller, so $40 per person does not cover all of our needs, but we have been fortunate to have some members who contribute larger amounts to make up the shortfall.

I am not proposing to raise the dues, but I do hope that all members who are able will contribute.  If you consider that we meet 30 weeks per year, your $40 buys you an expert group music lesson for $1.33 per session.  Quite a bargain!  In addition, we have a good time.

Please make your check payable to Queens Community Orchestra and give it to me.  You may pay $40 for the year or $20 per semester.  Currently-enrolled Queens music students are exempt.  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your contributions are tax-deductible if you itemize deductions.

My special thanks to those who have already paid for 2004-2005 and to those who have donated more than their $40 share.

Sincerely,

John Pickett

Treasurer
